TOPIC: DISCERN YOUR ENVIRONMENT
SCRIPTURE: “He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.” (Luke 13: 6)
That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today.
In our Focal Scripture, Jesus spoke a parable about a fig tree which was planted in a vineyard. This was not a fig tree planted amongst other fig trees. This was a fig tree caught in the midst of vines. In bible times, vines were known to have an aggressive root system. So, this fig was planted amongst vines with an aggressive root system, and when the owner of the fig came, he saw no fruit. Could it be that the aggressive roots choked the fig?
Friend, in this second half of the year, be careful where you are planted. Be careful who you mingle with. Be careful who you associate with. Be careful with the environments that your destiny mandate is caught in. Be careful with the vines that choke your figs. Be careful with the environments that stifle your growth. Be careful with relationships that make you less, rather than more. Be careful with vines that make your fig to dwindle.
The fig was planted in an environment that offered competition for nutrients, and unfortunately, it lost to the vines. If you are in their midst and you start losing breath in the realm of the spirit, then it is time to walk away. If you are in their midst and you are suddenly unable to inhale the presence of God as you ordinarily would, then it is time to walk away. Whatever environment that stifles you is not the best for you.
In subsequent verses, the vinedresser offered to dig around the fig, and dung it, so that it would start to bear fruit. In the midst of vines that could choke the fig, the vinedresser chose to create an environment that will enable the fig to grow. Be intentional in locating yourself in environments that make for your growth. Be intentional to locate yourself amongst people who help to keep your fire burning. Choose the right environment.
Don’t choose environments that choke the life out of you. Choose an environment that helps you grow. Be careful where you are planted.
Songs of Solomon 2: 15 says: “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.”
Declare With Me: I choose environments that will help me grow, in Jesus’ name!
